Pocono Vacations

The Pocono Mountains is a great place to take a family vacation. When I was younger, every year my family would travel a few hours north to Lake Wallenpaupack on Mount Pocono. There are several other smaller lakes nearby, but Lake Wallenpaupack is an amazing lake to see and is the largest man-made lake in all of Pennsylvania. The 4th of July is usually the peak of the summer around Lake Wallenpaupack. They used to launch the fireworks off on the lake, but have since moved the location to a local high school.

There are many fun things to do on the lake like boating, water skiing, tubing, and jet skiing. Many vacationers bring their own boats and tie them off at a dock. There are several Marinas around Lake Wallenpaupack that rent boats and jetskiis, along with boat slips if you need one for your boat. One of my favorite things to do on Lake Wallenpaupack is go fishing. There are some great bass fishing spots throughout the lake and you can land yourself a pretty big Striped Bass after midnight if you are lucky. You can find Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Pickerel, Muskellunge, Walleye, and some huge Channel Catfish in Lake Wallenpaupack as well.

There are also many fun things to do off the lake, and even more depending on what season it is. If you are into hiking or camping, the woods in the Pocono Mountains are quite dense and there are plenty of hills. Just watch out for bears! Because of this, most people actually camp in cabins, although if you know what you are doing, camping outside in the Poconos is amazing. The Poconos is a huge family vacation spot, so you will find many family oriented activites available throughout the area. They include places like Costa's Family Fun Park offers, go-karts, bumper boats, laser tag, water slides, miniature golf, batting cages and more. You will also find some other great places to take the kids like Claw'n'Paws Wild Animal Park, which is a small Zoo in the woods. It was always my favorite place to go in the Poconos when I was a kid. If you aren't looking to do any kids things, you could check out Holley Ross pottery. They have an amazing selection of pottery at great prices, and they used to have an amazing river walk behind the showroom.

There are several other popular spots to take a Pocono vacation as well. They include Bushkill Falls, Great Wolf Lodge, and Camelbeach Waterpark.
